However his special ability to generate attention via his outlandish sense of proportion and choice of materials did win him a global following, helping to make his fragrances huge international successes. Rabanne’s men’s cologne Drakkar Noir was for many years the world’s leading masculine scent.
Aurora, who launched his own label in 1997, described his own most recent catwalk collection – staged in Paris in October 2010 - as “futuristic baroque,” making him sound like an apt successor. His use of over-the-top appliqués, crazy color blocking and obsession with shiny finishes all dovetail with Rabanne signature flourishes..."
