From Mucho Macho Man to 3M - NYTimes.com
So I'm not the one for floppy hats and Mint Juleps, but ran across this article talking about 3M sponsoring a horse named MMM at the Kentucky Derby. The focus of the article was on how the owner took a long shot and left a voicemail on 3M's 800 # (Um...who does that anyway?), but the name of the jockey caught my eye. I hadn't heard of any desi jockeys in the US circuit, so had to do a wiki query...
"Rajiv Maragh (born July 9, 1985, in Jamaica) is a jockey in American Thoroughbred horse racing. An Indo-Jamaican, he is the son of a jockey who rode in Jamaica before relocating to Florida where he began a career as a horse trainer.
Rajiv Maragh rode his first winner at Tampa Bay Downs on February 1, 2004. He got his big break in 2008 when he was 14th in the national earnings list. Rapidly developing into a top jockey since moving north to compete at NYRA tracks, in 2009 he has been a winner of several Grade 1 races."
